It's really hopeful to see the young guys playing music with such passion, studying, transmitting their energy. So can an album become a…family affair? James Edouarth answers us about the creation of the album "Stray Beat" but also of EDOUARTH with his sons. He talks to us about music, designs and the albums he loves. Thank you very much for your time and we can't wait to see this super trio on stage!
Welcome to Metalourgio, thank you very much for your time.
How did you get into the process of writing and releasing a..."family" album?
From the beginning, we had our own songs that we liked and decided to record them, so that we could listen to them. That's when we got offered a 2 album deal from Sleaszy Rider, so we took it more seriously and that's how Stray Beat came out.
How long did the whole process take to complete?
We already had the tracks ready, we were playing them live, so we went straight into the suncord audiolab studio where super Achilleas Kalantzis, our producer, did a really good job and everything happened quickly.
How much did your sons Peter and George contribute to the songwriting and lyrics?
The children are still too young to help in this part, but they express their opinion in rehearsals and we come up with the final result somewhat more collectively..
It's not often that we've seen musicians at such a young age get their first record deal. How much do you think recognition or any difficulties will affect you?
Ever since we started this band (during the quarantine) the only thing we've been interested in is having a good time playing heavy metal, the music we listen to. Since then we have done a lot of live shows and our first album was released. Despite everything, the purpose remains the same, to have fun and enjoy ourselves. We made a room of the house a studio and every now and then we go in and all hell breaks loose. We want to keep this feeling in the coming years, so any difficulties or recognition will not affect us. Don't forget that Peter has been playing live since he was 8 years old and George since he was 10, so they've already been taking it seriously for two years.
Have Peter and George decided on their course? Will they pursue music, or is this just a beautiful experience?
I am not a prophet to predict the future of my children. We are more interested in the present, playing live, because on stage we really like it, we give it our all, and the audience who sees us receives this.
What is the style of the album and what is it about lyrically?
EDOUARTH play classic NWOBHM and our lyrics are in a similar style. (futuristic, social, for drinks, etc.)
From thrash and death to SPIDER KICKERS, in the album "Stray Beat" we are dealing with heavy metal. Does music have limits for you?
It has. I listen to metal, I love metal and everything else is not in my options. There are many genres of metal. I don't agree with the categorization of metal music, there are faster, slower, harder but in the end everything is metal. I may be playing 38 years of death thrash with SPIDER KICKERS but I'm the guy who listens to Iron maiden, Motorhead, Judas Priest, Black Sabbath. For me only metal is a prerequisite.
Tell me the 5 records that got you into metal.
The 80s was the big bang of heavy metal. Albums like reign in blood, bonded by blood, master of puppets, somewhere in time, orgasmatron are definitely in the top five.
How do you see the global metal community evolving in the coming years?
As in political life, where the rich get richer and the poor get poorer, so in metal the few known bands will become giants and the smaller bands will disappear. I think that in order for metal to have a future, it has to leave the living rooms and go back to the basements.
How much does the present and the future affect you and to what extent is this reflected in your music?
As I said above, we are more interested in the present, playing metal and having fun.
In a society that is constantly under attack, what can music offer?
Music and especially metal for some people is their personal defense. This is where the best guys are, and that's no coincidence!
How do Peter and George feel hearing the comments and reviews about the album?
They definitely like it, but they are quite down to earth and because they have been next to me at the SPIDER KICKERS live shows since they were very young, it seems like a normal situation for them.
Is there a song that all three of you love the most?
The self-titled track from the album "Stray Beat" is our favorite.
What have all these years on the stage taught you? How can a band stand up and claim its place and stand out?
There are many parameters that influence the course of a band. Consistency, patience and perseverance are essential, because the road is not paved with rose petals. But above all, love and passion for what you do.
Social media 'curse' or 'gift' for a band?
I think it's a gift. One keyboard gets your name across the Atlantic. It's not a small thing. However, the filtering that used to be there is missing, but we can't have it all.
What are your plans for the future of Edouarth?
We've already started writing tracks for our second album, and we're always ready to play live whenever we get the chance.
Thank you very much, is there anything else you would like to add?
We also thank Metalourgio for the interview, and see you on stage!!!
