The American death metallers OBITUARY announced the release of their new box set titled Godly Beings which will contain the band's first four albums, Slowly We Rot (1989), Cause Of Death (1990), The End Complete (1992) and World Demise (1994), on CD. The box set will be released on July 18th via Dissonance Productions.
The record label states:
55-track 4-disc set from death metal legends Obituary.
With the band's first four full-length studio albums released through Roadrunner Records, which helped define the genre and are widely regarded as classics to this day.
CD 1 includes their 1989 debut album Slowly We Rot, originally released through Roadrunner imprint RC Records, while CD 2 includes their classic follow-up album Cause of Death, originally released in 1990. Additionally, the third disc contains the band's 1992 breakthrough full length The End Complete, while CD 4 features the more experimental 1994 release World Demise.
The band formed in 1984 in Tampa, Florida, originally under the name Executioner, and created a style characterized by dense groove-based detuned riffs and the inhuman howl of frontman John Tardy. In early recordings, Tardy completely eschewed language for his vocal approach, instead making guttural, unintelligible noises that perfectly matched the music.
Inspired by local heroes like Nasty Savage and Savatage, as well as the primitive approach of Hellhammer/Celtic Frost, Obituary made an immediate impact and reached a global audience through their appearance (under the name Xecutioner) on Godly Records' seminal Raging Death compilation in 1987.
The rest is history......
