REVENANT – Saying goodbye to the band's drummer William “Will” Corcoran

With great sadness the members of RETURNING, the 80s/90s New Jersey death thrash metal band, have announced the death of William “Will” Corcoran (1968-2022).

“Will grew up in Teaneck, NJ, where he joined in the band Lacerated in the mid-1980s. Lacerated played clubs in North Jersey and recorded a demo. Henry Veggian sometimes entered the stage to cover Slayer songs, sharing lyrics with Lacerated singer Anthony Kingslow.

Will joined the RETURNING in the summer of 1989. Its effect was immediate. Technically proficient and creative in his approach, he added a new dimension to their sound RETURNING. In the fall of 1989 he played his first concert with the band, when the RETURNING and Immolation opened for Napalm Death on their first US show.

Will made his first recording appearance with our band around the same time, on the third Revenant demo, a three-track recording, which included a new version of "Asphyxiated Time", "Degeneration", and "Distant Eyes". . These last two tracks were released as a 7-pack by Thrash Records in 1990, and heralded the beginning of the band's longest and most successful period. Between 1989-1995, Will played drums on two more demos, an EP and an album, playing over 100 concerts in Europe and the United States.

Will was a fan of all the great drummers and counts legendary prog rock drummers among his favorites. One, of course, was closer to his heart, and that was Neil Peart, a drummer Will studied and listened to with great devotion. Anyone who spoke with Will knew that he loved to talk about his craft, and he had great conversations with other drummers in the local scene. Among them, Brandon Thomas of Ripping Corpse and Dave Witte of Human Remains were among his favorites, as he admired their technique and shared their passion for the art of extreme metal drumming.

Will was our drummer, our brother and our friend. During the nine years that the RETURNING were active, a total of only nine musicians played in our band (3 drummers, 3 bass players and 3 guitarists). We all stayed in touch when a band member left the band. Will's death is especially painful because he is the first of us to pass away.

We ask the fans of the band to honor him by opening their favorite drink, choosing a favorite song of theirs RETURNING and playing it so loud that Will could hear it shaking the walls in Valhalla.

Will leaves behind his wife, Kristine Corcoran and his brother, Ed.

Rest in peace, brother.”
